M-1 Grand Prix (stand-up comedians' competition)

Many comedians have been becoming the conqueror of the prime time.
Some people may say that without them most Japanese TV programs could not be done.

Strangely, some of the most famous Japanese comedians tend to be engaged in political debate programs.

You know Kitano Takeshi started his career as a comedian. He has been actively talking with many guest politicians on "TV Tackle", which started in 1989.

And now in Japan, one of the biggest competitions for stand-up comedians is the M-1 Grand Prix. "M" comes from "Manzai"; the word means "comic backchat or comic dialogue." I guess M-1 is derived from the combat sport "K-1." Amateurs can participate and the winer gets 10,000,000 yen. ($1= about 90 yen)

It is broadcasted all around Japan usually in winter. And many people, including who don't watch comedian's program so often, talk about it.

M-1 2008 is going to be held December 21 this year.

Hello! Konnichiwa!

Here is my first google blog. Let me introduce what I'm going to write here.

The main reason I started this blog is that I want to let people know more about Japan, such as its culture, people and language. So if you are interested in Japan even a bit, you may be able to find something here.

I should tell you that this blog is going to be poorly written since I am still studying English.

( Even though I studied in the US about for a year, I still have lots of trouble in writing.

So I will really appreciate if you help me study English.)

Oh, and I should let you know that since I live (was born and raised) in Osaka, my talk may place a disproportionate emphasis on things told especially Osaka...sorry.

Thanks.
